15 YEARS F R E S H

If I’m being honest, I became a Blogger and Podcaster because of one of my Favorite DJs and Turntablist of All Times! My Love for HIPHOP, BOOMBAP, The UNIQUE TECHNIQUES and CRAFT a DJ provides, had me gravitate to My Brother, from Another, Philly’s Finest but VA’s Own, HE. IS, DJ BEE! aka BEESUS (the DJ) aka The OZ of FRESHTOPIA!

*FRESHTOPIA: The place where we, The FRESHIANS, Dwell. Let me tell you a little about FRESH RADIO… and Why I’m 15 Years FRESH!,,,

First, lets start with, WHO DJ BEE is to me: I became familiar with DJ Bee back when he was on a PlanStation in VA. But what do you do when you get tired of having to play WACKazz music day after day?,,, Yup! You start your own Radio Station! So, on October, 10th 2010, DJ Bee started FRESH RADIO, his Online Station!

This station not only gave DJ Bee a way to do what he wanted and play the music HE wanted to play and listen to; FRESH RADIO provides REAL HipHop which is Literally Music to Our ears. Real HipHop Junkies, Real DJ’s, Real Music Lovers and it’s where we all came together. FRESH RADIO also provides a platform for local DJs and DJs worldwide to have a space to show their talents and start/continue a fanbase.

Fresh Radio also gives us Legendary DJ mixes and LIVE concerts, tributes &More. This is where you will not only hear HipHop but also House, Progressive, R&B, Classic & Jazz. Music played in unique ways and in blended orders that will have you listening all day.

I became a loyal member of FRESH RADIO from the Start; a true FRESHIAN and an Official Ladies of Fresh (LOF) member. Self-Proclaimed, walking billboard for the brand. You are sure to catch me in a T-shirt, Hoodie, Jacket,,, merch to Represent! Shoutout to Bosslady who keeps me in All of the Freshest gear. Sometimes, 1 of 1’s. OH, I also have a Tattoo to Rep FRESH RADIO.

Then there was the VI, the Verbal Intercourse chat. Its where many of us Original Freshians first met. Many nights I’d be up, late night, midday, early a.m, it didn’t matter, there was always someone in there to talk music and vibe with while a mix was on. We also got to talk with the DJs in Real Time in the VI while their mix or show was playing, including DJ BEE. They’d be folks from the U.S but also the UK, Japan, and many other countries around the world who stumbled across FRESH RADIO and the VI.

DJ Bee had many local Freshians who would gather together once FRESH FRIDAY events started. This was where I finally got to meet many of the FRESHIANS outside of the VI Chat. Most of my friends today, I wouldn’t have met had it not been for FRESH RADIO. We are a Family Worldwide. I would travel to VA from Brooklyn by bus, just to party and be back in NY the next evening like I never left!

There would be Themed events where Bee served as the resident DJ and most times he’d have a Guest DJ whether local or a DJ from another City/State and even some Legendary DJs came through. Fresh Fridays was always something to look forward to and it was a chance for HipHop & Music Junkies to link up and hang out with Legends as well as meet and become new fans of the DJs we weren’t familiar with.

Besides Fresh Fridays, DJ Bee does other shows locally in VA, at venues like, The Scope or The Norva and one of my favorite spots to hang out at, SEASIDE (Va Beach). He’s also had events in DC, NY, NOLA and recently Outside of the U.S. Each time you can catch Freshians out to support him as well as seeing him gain new listeners, fans and supporters of, not only Him but also FRESH RADIO.

In the last 15 years, its been Amazing to see how FRESH RADIO and the family has grown. How much Bee has accomplished doing the work, him and Bosslady, all by themselves. Going from just an online station to an App. Running a Business online. Shipping merch. etc. He goes Live at any given time on Fresh Radio, FB, IG and Now he has grown a fanbase on Twitch.

DJ Bee is a Mentor to up and coming students who want to do Radio. DJs study his work and learn from him. If, ‘Your Favorite DJs, DJ’, was a person, it would be him. His musical knowledge is Crazy! I think he has EVERY record Ever made. I have never heard him play the same song the same way twice. His Scratching, Blends, and Musical Style is Phenomenal!!!

He has a Record Store & Radio Station, an All-In-One: FRESHTOPIA, which has relocated and is currently at MacArthur Mall (300 Monticello Ave Ste 171, Norfolk, VA 23510). You can tune into FRESH RADIO and catch him LIVE daily. Other DJs Stop by and Spin on the 1’s and 2’s. You can purchase Merch and Records. Old and New. Even 45’s. And there’s even Classic Arcade games in the back. I’m still trying to Wax somebody in Pac-Man!

Bee is Humbled but has won many Awards. The best DJs do what they do for the love of Music and not for the money or recognition. He is down to earth, approachable but you really wont catch him outside too much if its not music related with him involved. Unless its Saturdays; weather permitted, you can catch him and fellow Bike Riders, riding down the Streets of Norfolk.

I could go on and on, (They don’t call me TalkingTye for nothing)… But I truly appreciate DJ Bee and Bosslady because she gave me my 1st Blog Opportunity, (Erykah Badu at The Scope), and Bee gave me the 1st platform to have my voice heard with what is called “TyeMercials”,,, Drops,,, Whatever, on FRESH RADIO!  He was also my 1st interview when I 1st wanted to be a podcaster and since starting my POD, “WHATS THE WORD”, he’s  allowed me to interview him a few times.

I’m excited to see what the future holds for FRESH RADIO but I know its going to be Dope AF!

Shoutout to Brother Akil and Sister Akilah, and PUSHA, who has captured many Moments in Fresh. Stuuu, for Always keeping the dance floor on fire. And All of the Freshians who I get to share musical space with. And, I Cannot forget my Big sis, Lex (@ButtonsByLex) who keeps me in the Freshest HIPHOP Buttons. (also buttons for ALL occassions so Hit Her Up!)

Congrats to DJ Bee once again and I look forward to many many more years of FRESH RADIO! I Am Super Proud and Grateful for being 15 YEARS FRESH! Thank You for being the reason that Many of us have woke up singing, “Lastnight a DJ Saved my Life!”… Thank you for allowing my voice to be heard with my (Long, But Informative, lol) Drops, for Always supporting me, and for being an All around Dope AZZ DJ!
